Building & construction
Tax and books for builders, trades and subbies — who don’t have time for either.
Progress claims, retentions, TPAR, contractor rules — construction has more tax traps per invoice than any other industry. We keep it compliant and keep the deductions you’re entitled to.
Sound familiar?
The problems we solve every week.
Contractor or employee?
Get the classification wrong and the bill arrives years later — with super, PAYG withholding and penalties attached. We get it right up front.
TPAR obligations
If you pay contractors, the Taxable Payments Annual Report isn’t optional. We prepare it from books that already track what it needs.
Progress claims & retentions
When is a progress claim income? What about the retention you haven’t received? Timing changes your tax — we make sure it works for you, not against you.
Vehicles, tools and site costs
Utes, tools, protective gear, site travel — legitimately deductible when documented properly. We make sure nothing is left behind.

Common questions
Asked by building & construction, answered plainly.
Do I need to lodge a TPAR?
If you’re in building and construction and pay contractors, almost certainly yes — it’s due 28 August each year. The real work is having books that captured the right details all year, which is what we set up.
My subbie has an ABN — so they’re a contractor, right?
Not automatically. The ATO looks at the substance of the arrangement, not the paperwork. An ABN alone doesn’t settle it, and the cost of getting it wrong lands on you, not the subbie. Worth a proper look before it becomes a problem.
Can I claim my ute and tools?
Generally yes, to the extent of business use — including depreciation or immediate write-off where thresholds allow. The key is documentation, and we’ll tell you exactly what to keep.
